Minute Maid Puts The Joy Of Giving Back In Birthdays
Celebrating 60 years young, Canada’s largest juice maker shares their celebration with Breakfast Clubs of Canada and birthday tips that keep on giving. Minute Maid is turning 60, with a smile. For Canada’s largest juice maker, this anniversary marks 60 years as part of a healthy breakfast for Canadian children, and a reason the company is proud to smile big on October 18, 2010. And Minute Maid is inviting Canadians to the party.
From August 20 to October 18, 2010, Canadians can join in (and give!) by simply playing some fun birthday games at www.minutemaid.ca. With every play, participants have the chance to win $1,000 daily cash prizes and a $25,000 grand prize. The icing on the cake? For every play, Minute Maid will make a donation, valued up to $60,000, to its long-time partner Breakfast Clubs of Canada. “One in 10 children lives in poverty in Canada and runs the risk of starting their day on an empty stomach,” says Daniel Germain, president and founder, Breakfast Clubs of Canada. “As one of our partners, Minute Maid contributions over the last 10 years has helped both Breakfast Clubs of Canada and our founding organization – Club des petits déjeuners du Québec – serve more than one million breakfasts to kids across Canada.”

Bats Cause Fear & Headaches for Homeowners
While the fans of the popular Twilight series seem to be growing in numbers, so too are the real-life bats roosting in roofs, attics and walls throughout Ontario and Quebec. And the problems for homeowners are no fantasy. This summer's hot and humid weather in Southern Ontario and Quebec provide the right conditions for bats to come into contact with people, and the consequences can be deadly.
"People have this amazing fascination with bats," notes Humane Wildlife Control President Bill Dowd. "But the interest quickly turns to fear and misinformation when people find a bat flying around their bedroom," he stresses.
Potential for Rabies Infection Bats are the most common carriers of rabies and health departments advise people to seek medical attention if they come into direct contact with a bat or are bitten or scratched. Especially when children are concerned, the health departments will provide rabies shots in order to prevent the deadly disease from taking hold. Rabies is usually not detected until it's too late, so precaution and prevention are critical.
Small Bites and Small Entry Holes The size of these small creatures means that their bites can often go undetected and they can become defensive if cornered, so homeowners are not advised to try and capture or remove the animals themselves. And because they can squeeze through a hole the size of a dime, bat colonies can easily thrive in a relatively warm and dry habitat like an attic, roof or wall cavity.

Zipcar and the Toronto Transit Commission Announce New Partnership
Zipcar Inc. and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) announced today that the international car sharing company is the newest member of the TTC's Hot Dealz Program. The Hot Dealz Program was created by the TTC in 2009 to provide valuable savings to Metropass customers for various Toronto attractions and services. As a partner, Zipcar will offer all TTC Metropass customers a valuable annual membership of $30, a $25 savings, and will waive the one-time initiation administration fee of $30 for a total savings of $55. Further, beginning today until February 4, 2011, TTC Metropass customers that apply for membership will receive 20 percent off of the company's hourly week day rates.
Both Zipcar and the TTC recognize that access to Zipcar's 360 car share vehicles will provide TTC Metropass customers an additional incentive to forego the purchase or lease of a personally owned vehicle and become more likely to use transit contributing to a sustainable transportation network. As seen in all Zipcar locations across North America, Zipcar vehicles in Toronto are located within walking distance from TTC subway stops in high density residential areas.
Zipcar has been proven to take cars off the road, and provide a viable alternative to car ownership. It is estimated that every Zipcar takes approximately 15-20 personally-owned vehicles off the road. A recent survey revealed that Zipcar members reported a 47 percent increase in the use of public transit after becoming members, 10 percent increase in cycling and 26 percent increase in walking. Program to Help Autism, ADD & Down Syndrome Now Available in Canada
The TV Teacher, LLC(TM), creator of the award-winning program, Alphabet Beats(TM), announces that its handwriting program is now available in Canada. The multi-sensory program was created by Susan Ellis, a mother of a child with Autism, and her son's occupational therapist, Marnie Danielson. Ms. Ellis' son, Ryan, struggled with learning to write the alphabet for years, despite using all the programs and theories available. Finally, Ellis realized she could motivate her son by using the tool he responded to best: television. Together, Ellis and Danielson made an engaging three-minute video about writing the letter "c," and Ryan began to write - within minutes!
Their discovery prompted the two to become business partners and produce professional DVD writing programs that have helped thousands of children and are amazing parents, teachers, and therapists. "In each letter chapter," says Danielson, "we use video-modeling together with a catchy rhythmic chant that children can remember. Our accompanying props and skits make it fun and keep children engaged. Visuals, rhythm, and repetition: it's the core of our programs and why they are effective. Our programs are used by "typical" children, too. But the testimonials of the children with Autism learning to motor-plan for the first time are the ones that we cherish."
"We had some wonderful distributors in Canada already. But with the addition of our newest distributor, Scholar's Choice, and their 25 retail across Canada, we will be significantly expanding into this great country," says Ellis. "Our programs have made some incredible breakthroughs for children with special needs. We are thrilled that Scholar's Choice will help make it easier and more affordable for Canadians to acquire." The TV Teacher has been seen on CNN, NBC, CBS, FOX, Advance Magazine for Occupational Therapists, and more. For demo's, and a list of Canadian retail stores, visit www.thetvteacher.com

Home@Ease Brings Savings to a New Level
Home@Ease has continued its string of innovative money-saving plans for the home sellers by introducing a "$395 Flat Fee MLS Plan". Compared to the traditional 5% commissions charged by real estate agents, the Home@Ease seller can save $22,226 in commissions and HST on the sale of a $400,000 home. The company stresses that this plan comes with Multiple Listings Service (MLS).
With the $395 Flat Fee MLS Plan the sellers do much of the work. The sellers decide how much buyer's agent commission (if any) they will offer when they list the property for sale. Only when the seller's house is sold and closed do the sellers pay any commission to any agent who may have sold their home. The sellers pay no commission if they sell the home themselves. Buyer's and Buyer's agents will be calling the seller directly for information and the seller will be responsible for showing the house, doing any open houses, marketing, follow up, negotiations, etc. The sellers listing will appear on the exact same MLS the local Realtors use, just like any other listing. Buyers and agents will not know how much the seller saved in commission. Basically the sellers are paying $395 plus whatever buyer's agent commission they decide to offer.
Home@Ease also has a 1% FULL SERVICE Plan where the company charges the seller 1% of the final sale price to handle the entire process. Basically it's hassle-free selling because it's FULL SERVICE and ONE-STOP. The seller pays Home@Ease 1% for the listing fee and the seller can decide how much buyer's agent commission (if any) they will offer when they list the property for sale. "
