Details: Being Scene is an annual juried exhibition produced by Workman Arts for the Center for Addiction and Mental Health. For over a decade, as part of its mandate, Being Scene has successfully introduced the general public to the work of thousands of artists who have lived experience with mental illness and addiction, presenting a cross-cultural portrait of the healing power of art in order to build a more respectful and realistic understanding of those recovering from mental illness and addiction.
The 12th annual juried art exhibition Being Scene launches August 2 from 5pm-7pm with a grand opening at the Gladstone Hotel. The exhibition and reception (live music, cash bar, snacks) will be held in the hotel’s public gallery situated on the 3rd and 4th floors. Following a two-month showing at Toronto’s historic Hart House, the show is now moving to the second in a series of several downtown Toronto venues.
This year’s exhibit features 56 works of emerging, intermediate and senior artists including: Apanaki, AYC, STRanger, Lisa Faiz, Vija Francis-Celmins, Murray Pridham, Chris Scott, Will, Claudette Abrams, Angela Bartello, Mark Belvedere, Melissa Bender, Danae Chambers, Steven Charney, Grace Cherian, Ann Davidson, Joey DAMMIT!, Robin Jones, Utter Logic, Catherine Jones, Laura Laughren, Barbara Greene Mann, Elysa Martinez, Michael Mills, Michael Morbach, Peter Mulcair, Alan Parker, Diana Portokalidis, Annette Seip, HMS Skycastle, Susan Spagnuolo, Jace Traz, Annalise Walmer, Lisa Walter, Jane Watson, Jai Wax and TK Workman.
