Details: OCAD University celebrates the opening of its new flagship public gallery, Onsite Gallery. Located at the centre of OCAD University’s Creative City Campus at 199 Richmond St. W. in Toronto’s Entertainment District, the Gallery will be a catalyst for contemporary art, design and new media, and a welcoming social space that promotes equity for its diverse communities.
To launch this new cultural space, OCAD U is holding a free Grand Opening event and street party celebration on Richmond St. W. on September 16 featuring live performances and presentations by well-known Indigenous artists, including DJ Classic Roots, Duke Redbird, Janet Rogers, Long Branch, Charlena Russell and Red Sky Performance.
The Gallery opens with two contemporary art exhibitions:
– raise a flag: works from the Indigenous Art Collection (2000 – 2015), curated by Ryan Rice, Delaney Chair in Indigenous Visual Culture, OCAD U and
– For This Land: Inside Elemental featuring: 2Ro Media: Jackson 2bears and Janet Rogers.
The new 8,000 square-foot venue is the university’s primary public exhibition space, with free admission for the public. It will be a downtown community hub serving the university and the general public, with the goal of fostering social and cultural transformations.
